A Poker Update PDF Print E-mail

This post is dedicated to my "boss" Anthony Doonan. I made a promise I would spread the word. Here's my attempt. Critique accepted at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Hey everyone!

I wanted to do a quick poker update before (what I think is) my final blog of the year (or at least before Christmas!). It's been over a year that I've had a blog and as my frequent readers know; I rarely ever mention anything poker related. I know this is going to sound like a paid advertisement blah blah like I have to do this for the site but if anyone has ever met me I don't think I've told a soul about pokerswat or what it is. To be perfectly honest I've never watched any of my videos on there. I have never watched anyone else's videos and until writing this blog I had no idea who half the other members were. I am lazy and don't like to hear myself talk. So please, take this for what it is. Thanks for reading.

That being said I wanted to let everyone know that I have been part of a training website called PokerSwat (www.pokerswat.com) that has many other known players such as Ozzy87, Andy McLEOD, PoorUser, Plattsburgh, myself and many others. I did a set of videos that consisted of 2 heads up and 1 six max several months ago but never mentioned anything to my readers (or anyone for that matter) as I was a little edgy about the product. Don't get me wrong I think they are good but I don't feel I played my A game throughout the series. I recently came out with the second edition of those vidoes and while some of the heads up matches provided me a big challenge, the 10/20 Deep Stack 6 max video is pretty damn good. I like to think that I have a good sense of when I play well and when I don't and I strongly feel that this most recent set of videos provides a high quantitiy of my A game play. If your interested, care to know, or just want to make a donation to someone who doesn't need it, please visit www.pokerswat.com.

Thanks,

Alec

This blog is part 3 of a 3 part series. Click here to read the first post, entitled Zion and the Narrows.

I haven't had much time lately to do writing (and just got through flying from Vegas to Buffalo for WPT Niagara with three stops) so I caught up then. All the posts are unique because of topic choice so I divided them accordingly. Enjoy and please send emails with thoughts to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The following evening I found myself having nothing to do. Andrew's parents were in town and since I was staying with him at Sky I was left to entertain myself. I decided to head down to Bellagio to play some cash games. I called to see what games they were running. The floor informed me that they had a 25/50/100 game running I immediately grabbed my stuff and headed over only to find that when I got there the game had just broke. Tilt. I saw that a 10/20 game was running and decided to hop in. Just as I did so a new 25/50 game emerged. As I was leaving to switch tables the floor rushed up to me and informed me that Doyle Brunson had just brought three fellow businessmen (who happen to be inebriated) into Bobby's Room that wanted to play some high stakes.

"What stakes?" I asked.
"I don't know he urged. Big."
"Well shit, I only brought $40,000 I might not have enough to rebuy. Let me call Andrew."
"Okay I'll talk to Doyle I'll be back."

This blog is part 2 of a 3 part series. Click here to read the first post, entitled Zion and the Narrows.

bink: a poker term that is used to mean getting extremely lucky.

bink to bink: never used before until now it can only be defined with the details of this post.

"I was all in on the turn with KK to AA when I "binked" a K on the river to win the pot."

If you have not read Zion this is a continuation of that post but I decided to divide them into two separate posts; "Zion" featuring only the week at the national park and "Bink to Bink" reflecting my past few days in Las Vegas.

Before I go into details I want to start by saying I have had the best week of my life. I also acknowledge that I ran highly above my "expectation" for the past week. WIth that being said; you know this is going to be good.

Welcome to Hong Kong PDF Print E-mail

September 6th, 2007

Hong Kong is astonishing. Dont quote me but a friend of ours who lives here said there were over 6 million people that live on the island. Mind you that Hong Kong island is probably 10 - 20 miles across each direction. If you want a visual imagine NYC x 3. The place is absolute chaos. I couldnt live here ever never never not once for all the money in the world. It drives me absolutley crazy. Nick loves it. Normal. We walk outside and you bump into every third person, nobody speaks english, incompetence levels are at all time highs, the elevator takes 32 seconds to get to the 16th floor (another pet peeve), and only two of the elevtators (out of the three) go to the roof. So get this. theres 31 damn floors. You get in the elevator and by the time it closes and starts moving, you realize that the roof floor isnt available (the floor which holds the pool, spa, gym, etc.) Thats how you know your not in America. Because nobody in the US is dumb enough to make such a moronic system. Elevators tilt me btw. Elevators and airports. Bajunky level 8. I know i said it was only airports but its not its elevators and incompetence and airports. GDDDDDDD okay breathe. Anyways, now for the fun stuff... Upon arriving Nick and I do what we always do, room service and movies. We both order fish, eat, dont die and thats all we could ask for after speaking with the morons on room service. The phone says "room service # 7." So naturally I push 7. The lady says something in chinese and i start ordering. If you've ever been out to eat with us you know we order EVERYTHing and I literally mean everything. So im 1/2 way through the menu and the girl stops me and says this isnt room service and she transfers me to another department. Tilt ensues. Looking for recovery we go to the TV. After flipping through the channels, we find nothing. We go to movies. Nothing. You know whats next.

A Little Bit of Everything (A Boring Post) PDF Print E-mail

Heyyyyyyy im baaaaaaack! I know it's been a few days and Ill do my best to keep them as regular as possible. Alright so a lots happened since the last time we've met. Nick and I left HK for Macau. We took the hour ferry ride to the neighboring island. We stayed at the Crown Macau which totally blows the Crown Towers (melbourne) out of the water. Overlooking the whole city on the 38th floor, the lobby is stunning. The rooms are beautiful as well, each spacioius and the nicest standard room either of us have seen. We checked out the Venetian which just opened and was completely sold out. The venue was SIX, i repeat SIX times larger than the Venetian in Vegas. You could only imagine how big the hotel, gaming floor and shops were. I believe it holds 3300 rooms but dont quote me on this. The four seasons and MGM are on the way as well. It reminds me of vegas in 1975 (although i wanst born then) or at least what i imagine it would be like. Although there is no poker YET, theres a tournament coming ($7,500 US buy in) in october and I believe poker will take off shortly thereafter. As many of you know, the asians are obsessed with gambling and every table on the entire venetian floor was completely occupied. It was truely nuts.
